In WCANE lab, where I am assigned to, I have 12 lab mates. Two of them are Indonesian (one is Double Degree of Master student, the other one is Ph.D. student), and the rest are local students.
Do not imagine that NTUST students always sit in front of PC to read scientific papers.
The local students are close with each other. They like playing computer games (e.g.:DotA), playing cards together, or just chatting in Facebook.
Mas Mudi, one of my Indonesian lab mates, said that some of them usually study in lab in the evening (I have never been in lab in the evening) and maybe they usually study in their house/dorm. So, that’s why I rarely see them studying in the lab.
We usually have lab meeting every Wednesday. But this time was different. My lab mate invited me to join a party to celebrate Teachers Day and (maybe) to welcome new students.
I was asked to write a thankful card to be given to our advisor.
We had lunch together in a restaurant in Gongguan which I didn’t know its name :p It’s like a shabu-shabu restaurant but in Taiwan taste. I ordered a set of vegetarian meals since there’s a high probability that the meat here is not halaal.
This set of meal consisted of tofus, many kinds of mushrooms, yams, cabbages, paprika, corns, and so on. The dessert was warm and consisted of jellies and fruits like rambutan.
My advisor and my friends were worried about me and my Indonesian friend. They sometimes asked us, “is the food alright for you?” since we ate slowly and moreover I didn’t finish it off.
I told them that the food was okay but the portions are just too much for me and I had small stomach. So, I couldn’t finish the meals off x)
Here is our memorable picture of the party!
Sure, this event brought us closer… And I hope we can be much closer in the future 🙂
